This blog currently has well over 20,000 graphics on it. I lost track a long time ago of exactly how many graphics there are. Because there are so many of them, I've broken them down into drop-down menus for easier navigation. Simply choose the type of graphic you want to view from any of the drop down menus, and then click on the GO button next to that menu. You will automatically JUMP to that blog entry, without having to navigate through each of the graphical posts. OMG!! This is SO HOT!!!

109°

fahrenheit

43° Celsius
Heat Index (feels like) = 133°F / 56°C

That is what the temperature here was about 10 hours ago. Now it has cooled down to a whopping 82° here at 2am. A little bit ago i went out on the porch. And with my bare feet, the wood of the porch still held some of the heat from the day. The sun has been down for a good 6 hours now, and the heat of the Kansas sun is barely slipping away.

Tomorrows temps are calling for much of the same. The high tomorrow will also be around 109°. If the heat is not enough, then top that off with humidity that lingers in the air. Its so hot, that a walk to the mailbox will make you sweat.

Wichita broke a record high today, beating the record high of 107° set back in 1980. (source) Bulletins were issued today, alerting the public of the conditions and record breaking highs. Here is the copy of one of the bulletins:

... Record high temperatures at Wichita and Russell today...

The high temperature today at wichita's Mid-Continent Airport was 109 degrees. This broke the previous record high temperature for this date... of 107 degrees set back in 1980.

The high temperature today at Russell was 111 degrees. This broke the previous record high temperature for this date... of 107 degrees also set back in 1980.

Next week will cool off into the 90's, but the temps are expected to return to the triple digits come Thursday of next week, and continue on into August. The heat might not be so bad if it wasn't for that darn precipitation lingering in the air. Humidity and heat just don't mix well if you ask me. If i wanted to bask in a sauna, i'd check in at the local Holiday Inn. LOL!! The average humidity has been ranging between 40%-50% relitive humidity. (sticky and yucky) Which has sent the heat index soaring into the boiling digits.

The only thing i'm finding amusing about this heat wave is the effect its having on the street. In the mid afternoon, if you look at the street at eye level, you can see the tar bubbling from the heat. Its seriously baking the street. Neat, eh? Of course, i wouldn't recommend serving it to anyone as a full course meal. I pitty the person brave enough to walk across the street barefoot...YIKES!!

Across the nation, some states are getting a relief from the heat. Unfortunately, Kansas isn't one of them. The heat seems to be pounding us pretty hard. And its only beginning. August is normally the hottest month of the year here, and its only a couple of weeks away. I'm sure more record breaking highs will come this year...that seems to be the path we're on right now.
